VCU in 1977. This video kept me up a good hour longer than I needed last night, watching and rewatching. Former VCU art professor, the late Glenn Hamm captured this amazing footage back in 1977 all over Grace Street, Monroe Park and what looks like parts of Franklin Street. It’s so cool being able to see what the area looked like over 40 years ago, and to see what’s still standing. Music and editing was done by Glenn Hamm’s son, Carl “DJ Carlito” Hamm.

So, this happened at the New York Governor’s Debate yesterday. It’s sort of surreal that it’s not a staged moment, whether or not Jimmy McMillan is serious or not. I don’t think I could legitimately vote for this guy, but he does make a valid point - the rent is too damn high.

I meant to put this up last week, but time got away from me. My good friend Jonathan (or as most of his friends call him, Jon Jon) had an art opening at Cous Cous last Thursday, and we went to check it out. The show is pretty impressive both in size and quality of work, and it runs through the end of the month. The flyer above uses a painting he did based on a photo he took of me last year during a scavenger hunt we both went on. It’s not quite life size, but it’s almost there. I present to you, the Diana camera tote bag.

A month ago I printed a metric ton of tote bags for Quirk Gallery’s 5 year anniversary. I also printed that shirt for my lady friend, and at her behest I’ve printed them again on totes for your buying pleasure. It’s a two color print on an off white tote, all cotton. I dropped off 10 of them at Quirk, and I believe they are selling for $14, but I have some of them as well, so get in touch (brandonpeck @ gmail dot com) if you’d like to pick one up!

Daily Art Project:

So yesterday was my girlfriend, Diana’s birthday, and I made this shirt for her as one of her presents. I’ve been tossing around printing toy cameras for a while, so it only made sense to try out the one with her name on it. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly I’m doing with this idea, but this is the first step.

Diana and I have been talking about trying to make something, anything, once every day, using our blogs as a means to present these art projects and keep ourselves motivated. I’m not sure if this is the first in that steady line of projects to come, but I figured I’d give it a shot anyway in an effort to motivate myself. Ready, set, go!

Every month, the bar I work at (in conjuction with rvanews.com) has a band or solo act come in and play a free show. Last month it was the recently reformed Homemade Knives, and the result was one of the most captivating performances I’ve ever witnessed. I work every Sunday night, which is the night that these performances take place, and this one set the bar really high. Their set consisted mostly of Bruce Springsteen songs, revamped and reformatted for their sound, and I can’t describe how amazing it was. Do yourself a favor, download these songs (also free) and just fall in love.

It’s Friday, August 6th, more than halfway through 2010, and I’m realizing that not only have I not even tried to make good on my New Year’s resolution, but I also need to update my profile on here to show that I’m not 26 anymore. Where does the time go?

Here’s a video that my friend Sierra’s brother made. She emailed a bunch of her friends to see if they could help her brother, Dylan (whom I’ve never met), with a video project by recording the dialogue and emailing it to him. I did it on a whim during a day off, and he ended up using several of my submissions. Witness as I awkwardly speak Spanish. Oddly enough, I’ve never shown this to anyone.
